Tim Edwards Bio

Tim came to glass from a ceramic background, where he says “I did a lot of working out of
the forms I wanted to use...... A bold sense of design and surface manipulation was always
some thing I was interested in”. This can be seen in the works he has gained a reputation
for and also the work he makes today which shows a strong link to his ceramic history.
All of Timʼs work is blown or shaped in the hotshop and then cut, carved and ground using
the ʻlatheʼ with diamond and stone wheels.
Tim worked as an artist at Blue Pony studio from 2001 to 2008. The earlier years were
more sporadic, becoming a member in 2005.
Tim has a strong link to the land. He spent his childhood on a farm in the south east of
South Australia, and has found enormous inspiration from regular trips to the desert and
the Flinders Range.
Tim has spent time in North America as a teacher and student at the Pilchuck Glass
School, Haystack School of Crafts and at Ohio State University as a Scholar in residence.
In 2007 he undertook a residency at the Tacoma Museum of Glass as a visiting artist.
Exhibiting nationally and internationally, Tim has art work in various collections, notably the
Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, USA, Museum of Glass, tacoma, USA, the National
Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of SA, the National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of
Western Australia and Wagga Wagga National Art Glass collection. In 2006 Tim was
awarded the Rakow Commission from the Corning Museum of Glass, being the second
Australian to receive this significant award.
After 5 years in Canberra concentrating on his art practice and parenting he has returned
to Adelaide with his family and works as a practicing artist and glass studio technician at
the JamFactory.
